Formed in the late 1960’s to provide legal services to the insurance and shipping markets the firm has played a key role in many headline cases including asbestosis and computer leasing litigation; the loss of the “Derbyshire”; uncovering the largest ever maritime fraud in the sinking of the “Salem”; the Lloyd’s litigation; the invasion of Kuwait in 1990 and the theft of the Kuwait airlines fleet; the Bexley, Ladbrooke Grove and Hatfield rail accidents.

The firm specialises in insurance, reinsurance, shipping, transport, and all commercial, regulatory, A.R.T. (Alternative Risk Transfer), employment and e-commerce matters relating to the insurance and financial services market.

The Shipping Group provides complete marine litigation, including arbitration and mediation, and non-contentious services to shipowners, charterers, cargo owners, underwriters and P&I Clubs. Collisions and salvage matters are overseen by a Master Mariner partner. The Group maintains a global network of correspondent lawyers, marine and technical experts, and its members are on call 24 hours a day throughout the year.
